Watercolor is inviting, engaging, and alluring. At the same time, it is very challenging and demands dedication. It has become many people's favorite technique due to its plastic qualities (transparency, delicacy, and expressiveness) and practical aspects (it is direct and fast). Dedicated to beginners, intermediates, and professionals, this book celebrates the remarkable presence of watercolor in various environments and artistic communities, contemplating diverse applications and styles to show how this ancient technique arrives in our time revitalized, even after decades of rapid digital development and the full ascendancy of artificial intelligence. The author uses references from his work and that of 60 other artists – totaling over 400 works – to teach the fundamentals of the technique, including tips on materials, washes, composition, scale, colors, and drawing, but also to discuss field experience and introduce the reader to the main expressive trends in recent watercolor production. In five sections, "journeys" are explored, covering studio work, urban sketching, en plein air activity, painting the human figure, and the professional possibilities for a watercolor artist.
