What is Cerazette and what is it used for?

Cerazette (Desogestrel) is used to avoid and prevent pregnancy.

Important

Its use offers no protection against infections caused by the HIV virus or other sexually transmitted diseases.

How do I use Cerazette?

The Cerazette (Desogestrel) blister pack contains 28 tablets, with arrows and days of the week printed on them.

One tablet is prescribed daily and should be taken with a glass of water, at approximately the same time each day.

Important

With each new pack of Cerazette, start with the tablet on the first line (top line) marked with the corresponding day of the week. Do not start taking any random tablet.

For example, if you start your new pack on a Wednesday, you should take the tablet from the first row marked on the back of the pack with “WED”. Continue taking one tablet a day until you finish the pack, always following the direction indicated by the arrows. This way, you can easily check if you have taken the tablet for the day by looking at the back of your pack.

How does Cerazette (Desogestrel) work?

Cerazette contains a small amount of a type of female sex hormone, the progestogen desogestrel. For this reason, it is called a progestogen-only pill, or mini-pill.

Unlike combined pills, mini-pills do not contain an estrogen hormone combined with progestin, and most work primarily by preventing sperm cells from entering the uterus, but they do not always prevent egg maturation, which is the main action of combined pills.

What should I do if I forget to use Cerazette?

If the delay in taking the tablet is up to 12 hours from the time you normally take it, the reliability of Cerazette is maintained. Take the missed tablet as soon as you remember and continue taking the next tablets at the usual time.

If the delay is greater than 12 hours, the reliability of Cerazette may have been reduced. The more consecutive pills missed, the greater the risk of reduced contraceptive effectiveness. Take the last missed pill as soon as you remember and continue taking the next pills at the usual time.

Composition

Each coated tablet contains 75 mcg of desogestrel.

Warnings

• Store at room temperature (between 15 and 30°C).
• Protect from light and moisture.
• Do not use medication after the expiration date. Store it in its original packaging.
• Before using, check the appearance of the medication. If it is within its expiration date and you notice any change in appearance, consult your pharmacist to find out if you can still use it.
